Hi Families,

This week, a big part of our work has been developing our ability to represent our ideas, and share experiences, through pictures. This week, we attached the task to the question, "What were you on Halloween?"

We reviewed Mat Man and shapes and lines we see in his body.

We did a step-by-step drawing,
creating a non-example and example as success criteria.

Our first draft! We celebrated our successes!

And made connections between our drawings
and the success criteria.

We made goals for our second copy.

And included specific details to support "how" or "why".

We did a second draft.
We helped Ms. Thomas make her Mat Man look like her.

We added our own details to make our Mat Man
look like us, in our Halloween costume.

We shared our work with our classroom friends,
reflected on our goal, and shared compliments.

In the upcoming weeks, we look forward to learning how background details add to our story, building success criteria for colouring, and transferring our skills to other ideas.

In Other News

We introduced four more characters, their letters, sounds and actions, from the Animated Literacy program:

In math, we explored our classroom for examples of numbers, and tried to identify the different purposes for number in our learning environments.

We read non-fiction books to identify how numbers are used in other environments, like stores.

Can you support your child by looking for examples of number in your home, and other places you visit this weekend? What is the purpose of those numbers? What information do they tell us?
