Hi Families,
Congratulations and thank you to all families on surviving (and thriving!) in our second week of Kindergarten!
Routines are quickly developing, and students' comfort with their classroom, peers, and teachers is evident. We love seeing everyone's smiling faces throughout the day, and the keenness in which they are learning new things.
This week, in addition to tub work (familiar building materials meant to ease transition and support independence), students were introduced to some shelf work choices, developing a common understanding of Geometry, Practical Life, Sensorial and Science materials for use during our Montessori Work Period. Through scaffolded introduction, students learn and practice care of materials, and teachers are able to observe for individual need and preference, tailoring future lessons.
Ask your child about the materials they are most interested in.
Practical life in Montessori is purposeful activity, develops motor control and coordination, and develops independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility. |

through Mathematics and Sensorial materials.
This week, Student Information Packages (brown envelope) were sent home with your child. Please read and complete the necessary forms, and return at your earliest convenience.
The calendar included in the Student Information Package (brown envelope) is incorrect. An updated calendar will be sent out shortly, which will include the September 30th Non-Operational Day to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
December 10th will now be a regular school day. Students in the PM kindergarten classes will attend.
Within our inclusive learning community, we recognize, support and celebrate each child as a learner, peer and friend. This year in our classroom, we have a student that has Down Syndrome, which means she has some beautiful and unique facial features. It also means that she needs some extra time to learn things, like talking and understanding instructions. Our new friend is excited to be at school and meet new people! If you or your child has any questions about Down Syndrome, the family is open to having you ask questions – please introduce yourself! You can also visit the Canadian Down Syndrome Society at www.cdss.ca
Reminders:
Every Friday at Lake Bonavista School is our school Spirit Day! Students are welcome to wear a Lake Bonavista School shirt (if your family has one from past siblings) or the colours blue and white.
